A merry band of musicians who perform medieval and renaissance music on handmade reproduction instruments and sing period ballads, wassails and partsongs.

Sine Nomine was founded over 30 years ago. The current company comprises of teachers and musicians who join its two founding members, all of whom are based in Crewkerne and the surrounding villages.
We have also led talks and discussions on early music, musicianship and craftsmanship. This also features, in a smaller way, in our concert performances.
Sharing our music-making with local musicians enriches our performances and recently we have collaborated with an early music group from Igny, Paris. The two joint concert weekends saw Sine Nomine perform alongside 'La Baroquerie' in Crewkerne and in Paris.
Whilst predominantly a string ensemble 'La Baroquerie' performs music from the late Renaissance and early Baroque periods with period string instruments and showcases instruments including the Theorbo, Cornett, Recorder and Harpsichord.
The concerts include dancing to Bransles, Gavottes and Sarabandes and the suites of music and their instruments are introduced by the company.
During the interval we are happy to demonstrate the techniques of playing the instruments and often invite audience member to have a go on some of the instruments.
